Eric Fassler, MD
Gynecologist
Gynecologist
Dr. Eric Fassler completed his obstetric and gynecology training at the University of Arizona. He has been in practice in Washington for 17 years. Dr. Fassler has always had an interest in gynecology, with a special interest in minimally invasive surgery and other alternatives to major abdominal procedures. His group, Women's and Family Health Specialists, has been one of the leading practices in the Seattle area in laparoscopic procedures for the treatment of ovarian and other pelvic disorders. Dr Fassler and his partners began performing endometrial ablations for the treatment of abnormal bleeding as an alternative to hysterectomy in 1992, and have performed more ablations than any other group in Washington. He has had advanced training in new surgical approaches to the treatment of urinary incontinence that allow patients to return to normal activities within a few days. He now trains other gynecologists in these techniques. Currently, Dr. Fassler is one of four gynecologists in the nation trained in the use of the focused ultrasound for the treatment of fibroids.
The ExAblate 2000 MRI-guided focused ultrasound technique for the treatment of uterine fibroids is a giant step in the progression toward less invasive gynecologic procedures. The Exablate is really the first step toward "scalpel-less surgery". Studies show that approximately 70% of fibroids can be treated with focused ultrasound. This new technology will have a dramatic benefit on the quality of life for women who suffer from fibroids. Patients having focused ultrasound treatment can usually return to their normal activities the day after the procedure, as opposed to four to six weeks recovery required with traditional hysterectomy, or two to three weeks of pain and recuperation with Uterine Artery Embolization.
Focused Ultrasound Northwest's ExAblate 2000 system in Seattle is a designated training site, where Dr. Fassler and his colleagues will train other physicians wanting to learn the procedure. Patients will gain from being treated at a state-of-the-art facility that is helping lead the nation in the use of focused ultrasound.
Patients seeking treatment for gynecologic problems will benefit from working with Dr. Fassler, who has experience and depth of knowledge in the evaluation of symptoms particular to women's health, and is able to offer treatment alternatives for many medical problems.
Dr. Fassler practices obstetrics and gynecology at Women's and Family Health Specialists, a unique practice which combines Obstetrics and Gynecology with Family Medicine. This blend of specialties allows the group to focus on the full scope of women's health matters, as well as provide primary healthcare to family members of all ages.
